Club Runs
Introductory Rides
Introductory rides or also known as novice rides, run on Sunday’s and meet at the The Three Tuns pub in Ashwell on the High Street at 09:30. These rides are certainly designed to be the next step before the club ride level and are approximately 15 miles in distance and under 15 miles per hour average speed. These rides are normally small groups and are paced to accommodate the entry level rider. They are organised on an ad hoc basis so please contact the club before to ensure the ride is available.
Saturday Club Runs
The CCA club run meets every Saturday at the The Three Tuns pub in Ashwell on the High Street at 09:00.
The target distance is 35-60 miles with an average speed of approximately 15 miles per hour. The routes used for the Saturday ride are proposed before the ride and posted up on the CCA forum along with any further information for the ride like coffee/cake breaks along the way.
Sunday Club Runs
The CCA club run meets every Sunday at the The Three Tuns pub in Ashwell on the High Street at 09:30 in the Winter time (defined from the first Sunday after the clocks change in October) and 09:00 in the summer time (defined from the first Sunday after the clocks change in March).
The target distance is 35-60 miles with an average speed of approximately 15 miles per hour. The routes used for the Sunday ride are proposed before the ride and posted up on the CCA forum along with any further information for the ride like coffee/cake breaks along the way.
For the faster riders there is a medium or even a fast group. These medium or fast club rides on Sunday are designed for covering further distances at a higher average speed. These are separately organised groups to the club run.
Chaingang Tuesdays
As the name suggests, they are run on Tuesdays but only in the summer time when there is enough light in the evenings. Meet up time and place will be specified on the chain gang post on the forum. This is an excellent session to hone skills and improve bike handling.
They are pacey circuit based rides designed for harder cycle training than club runs. The chain gang instills a ‘through-and-off’ process to circulate all the riders to the front so that everyone in the group shares being on the front of the pack for a brief period of time. Watch the forum for a new post when they start-up in late April/early-May.
How to ride through and off (chaingang)
The speed can average between 20-25 miles per hour and during the longer summer evenings may accommodate up to 3-laps whereby each lap consists of 9 mile loops.
Wednesday Club Runs
The CCA club run meets most Wednesday’s at the 3-Tuns, Ashwell at 09:30.
The target distance is 35-60 miles with an average speed of approximately 15 miles per hour. The Wednesday rides are planned on a more ad hoc basis as they are mid-week. Please contact the club before to ensure the ride is available.
Off-Road Club Run
Unlike some cycle clubs that specifically just focus on road riding, CCA has a strong Cyclo-cross off-road group of riders. The club organises both ad hoc off-road club runs and special off-road events throughout the year (for example: G-ride). These rides include mountain bikes too for those that do not own a cyclo-cross bike.
